Modified Honda Engines open the way to Hydrogen Driven Cars
Imagine hydrogen driven vehicles in place of gasoline driven ones? This is a dream come true for the automobile industry and to the ardent eco-friends of it. Students from Hacienda Heights in California have built a wonder vehicle that works on hydrogen internal combustion engine (HICE). The vehicle uses a modified four-stroke engine from Honda. This is a three-wheeled vehicle and runs completely on hydrogen.
The vehicle does not take even the slightest help from gasoline to run. It is a complete eco-preserving venture that would contribute to the biosphere sustainability.
The vehicle that runs on modified Honda engine has undergone rigorous test drives. Test drives proved the vehicle to be successful and reliable to drive and now, the vehicle is all set to make its first public appearance. Of course, the vehicle has some concerns about safety issues. Student Project Manager who came with this innovative idea, John Weng, has admitted that the bugs are neutralized but there are some issues in regards to safety. He assured though that they would release an absolutely safe vehicle in public.
The students are active members in Los Altos Academy of Engineering (LAAE), a program for high school students, run by students, to educate, train, and to expose them to engineering and technology. The LAAE is a combined endeavor of Hacienda La Puente Unified School District and La Puente Valley Regional Occupational Program. The LAAE had encouraged such initiatives before which tells us that this is not the first feast of these highly-talented students.
These students have a lot of such innovations to their credit. They have built a human-powered airplane, a vehicle that runs purely on solar energy in World Solar Challenge, and a hydrogen fuel cell car that came first in Shell Eco-marathon. This group is geared to introduce HICE in this year’s Shell Eco-marathon. Let’s wish them the best.
