CSR responsible corporates rise their number to 70%
A worldwide survey, conducted in 16 countries, including Canada, the United States, China, Denmark, India, France and Germany, regarding investment for dealing with climate changes, has revealed stunning results. Conducted by the independent analyst firm Verdantix, this was an anonymous research, in which 70% of the respondents said that they planned to invest more on climate change programs in order to ensure the future health of the company.
While the analysis has been done in many buckets, the one in Ernst & Young covering 300 corporate executive revealed no different results from those of the overall survey. Almost 50% of the respondents affirmed that their investments towards climate changes will range from 0.5% to more than 5% of annual revenues by the next 2 years.
When looking at the immediate next year, about 82% of respondents confirmed that energy efficiency and energy saving costs were critical drivers for the period.
The survey included firms with revenues of $1 billion or more and about 70% of them have definite plans to invest consistently in climate change initiatives. This brings forth a picture of increasing awareness about corporate social responsibility, i.e., what we take from nature we need to give back at least in part.
While most of the respondents in the top hierarchy of companies were strongly aware of the requirements for investment towards dealing with climate change, it does not necessarily follow that this awareness prevails at organization-wide levels. People in the lower rungs of organizations are seldom aware of, included or involved in climate change investment plans.
The challenge for implementation of energy saving technologies lies in the difference of regulations in various countries or even different states of the same country. Despite that, corporations are definitely planning and currently even taking action in this area, because it has grown from an optional choice to a revenue and brand generating issue. A brand which projects itself as environmentally conscious is taking the steps in the right direction for future success.
